Chapter Philanthropy

Philanthropy For Kappas Has Always Been Three Fold

Philanthropy 1: The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation

The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation was created because sometimes members of Kappa are the ones in need. Whether it is a grant during a time of crisis, or a scholarship in order to help a sister finish her education, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation is there to support our members when they need it the most.

Philanthropy 2: Kappa and the Community

Zeta Iota's philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness. Kappa Kappa Gamma supports the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation through our fundraising efforts during the year the year.  Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded on a promise made between two sisters – Susan Goodman Komen and Nancy Goodman Brinker. Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1978, a time when little was known about the disease and it was rarely discussed in public. Before she died at the age of 36, Suzy asked her sister to do everything possible to bring an end to breast cancer. Nancy kept her promise by establishing the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982. One in eight women will have breast cancer during her lifetime, making this philanthropy extremely close to our hearts. Zeta Iota is committed to doing everything in our power to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, to help put an end to breast cancer once and for all.

Philanthropy 3: Kappa and Reading Is Fundamental

Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. has a mission to build a more literate nation by helping young children discover the joy of reading. The main goal of RIF is to serve the nation's under-served children and families through literacy programs and campaigns that motivate youth to read regularly.

As a chapter we support RIF through our annual book drives and reading at local elementary schools. We also make bookmarks during chapters and campus events so that we can share them with the children we read to. RIF has been a fun and fulfilling way for our chapter to get more involved in the local community and is a significant part of Kappa Kappa Gamma's Three Fold philanthropic beliefs.
